1) Are you a convert or born Muslim? How about your parents?
I'm a convert/revert, Alhamdulillah. My parent's are Messianic Jewish.
2) What's your ethnicity and how did it relate to how you were raised?
I'm a whitey but more specifically German and Irish. But German culture is most prevalent in my family. It meant that we knew where we came from and that we ate sauerkraut and beer is around. Sausage was sort of in the mix but my mother won't eat pork anymore so...
3) Where are you from, and if not the Middle East, have you been there? For how long and why?
Born in England, raised in America. I've never been to the Middle East, my dad lived there for awhile though.
4) What's your favorite Arab/Middle Eastern dish?
I can't pick just one! But definitely tabbouleh, hummus, pita bread, shawarma, baklawa, fattoush, etc.
5) What's the most interesting or funny Islam/Arab related saying you use day to day?
I say yes and no, hurry up, and a few other phrases in Arabic. Otherwise, my salams and du'a.
6) What's the most attractive and unattractive thing you find toward an Arab man/woman?
I think they're gorgeous (lol!) and I love the culture. But I here so many bad things about Arab men from certain areas (and I'm a potential Shiite so most will run for the hills)
7) What's the thing you love most about Islam? What do you dislike the most?
I love the Qu'ran. I also like having set guidelines and a firm faith in something. I don't like how if I told people certain things that they'd kick me out or that people who do know ridicule me for it. I also hate that I'm supposed to ignore a big thing and just be like everyone else, and the insistence on using Arabic names for reverts/ reading and learning the Qu'ran in Arabic only.
8) What's the most interesting/embarrassing/funny thing in your house that's related to Islam or Arab culture, excluding the Quran?
I have nothing because my faith is a secret.
9) Do you speak Arabic? If you do, then say something.
A little. All the basic Muslim phrases, a couple of Ayahs and Surahs, and basic Arabic phrases.
10) Name of all the Islamic Prophets you can remember at the top of your head. No Cheating!!
Abraham, Moses, Isa, Muhammed (pbuh)... I'M BLANKING OUT GAH
